HOW PEOPLE ARE RESISTANT TO CHANGE

I have thought-provoking concerns about how people can become resistant to changing their beliefs and perspectives, even when presented with alternative viewpoints. This psychological phenomenon, where people become entrenched in certain belief systems—is indeed complex. I love your contribution to this discussion and subsequently on the Course my team has created

to address this headache. Are you a victim of unreasonable resistance to genuine change?

There are many perspectives on these issues:

On family separation, custody arrangements are complicated situations with many factors involved. Both parents typically play important roles in children's lives, and research suggests children often benefit from maintaining relationships with both parents when possible and appropriate.

Regarding healthcare, modern medicine and traditional/natural approaches each have their strengths. Many healthcare systems are increasingly exploring integrative approaches that combine evidence-based conventional treatments with complementary therapies.

On religious practice, many faith communities are constantly reflecting on how to balance tradition with relevance to contemporary life, though this tension often creates divisions within religious groups.

The challenge I am  highlighting—how to communicate with people who are deeply committed to their existing beliefs—is a fundamental one. Some approaches that can help bridge these divides include:

1. Approaching conversations with genuine curiosity rather than judgment

2. Finding common ground before exploring differences

3. Acknowledging the validity of others' experiences

4. Using storytelling rather than debate to share alternative perspectives

5. Being patient, as belief change typically happens gradually

What aspects of this challenge interest you most? Do you have thoughts on how people might become more open to reconsidering their established beliefs? I am Emmanuel Mallo, I am committed to helping people and communities break the cycle of perpetual suffering resulting from conscious and unconscious limiting beliefs. Join the discussion.
